► An Inspirational Story for Female Players
For years the KTBA has trumpeted the role of women in local baseball and now the majors apparently have caught on to what we have known all along. There is a place for females in this great game. Some facts to consider:
-
In Canada's centennial year (1867 for anyone who has forgotten their Grade 10 History) the first professional, paid, baseball team appeared in Philadelphia; it was a women's team
-
The baseball anthem, “Take me out to the Ball Game” was inspired by a young girl
-
In 1977 Pam Postema became the first professional female umpire in the US
-
In 2009 the first Pan American women’s baseball championship was held in Venezuela
-
